Red Flag
For Marc Fennell’s latest documentary, which explores the rise and fall of the music streaming service Guvera, I created the hero marketing image and title treatment, along with secondary artwork for SBS On Demand.
Marc’s original brief for the hero art was to reference the famous Guerrillero Heroico photograph of Che Guevara, as Guvera had drawn on this iconography in its own advertising materials. Guvera hoped this would illustrate how they aimed to revolutionise the music streaming landscape when they were founded in 2008.
While developing this concept, I felt it didn’t fully reflect the documentary’s themes of music piracy and streaming. To address this, I created several alternative designs that better aligned with the content. Marc ultimately preferred one of these alternatives, which became the hero art, while the other designs were used by SBS On Demand.
